(LOOGOOTEE) - The Loogootee City Council approved an ordinance establishing new sewer rates for 312 customers who use to be in the West Boggs Sewer District. The city of Loogootee acquired the district in December.

Currently, city customers pay less than those who were in the West Boggs district.

Mayor Noel Harty anticipates future rate increases will be minimal, but said the gap between the two groups of customers will be maintained in the future. Eventually all customers will be billed on the same day, since all the revenues will now go to the city.

Public Works Superintendent Bo Wilson said he hopes to have the two former district employees moved into their new office in the city annex by January 25. By closing the former district office, Mayor Harty expects the city will save $4,000 in rent and utility costs annually.

By combining the two sewer districts, Harty expects the city's financial bottom line to increase at least $85,000 annually.
