Legislation Would Allow School Bus Drivers To Sign Affidavit Against Those Who Run School Bus Stop Arms

Last updated on Monday, January 11, 2016

(WASHINGTON) - State Senator Eric Bassler of Washington has filed legislation to allow school bus drivers or monitors to provide a signed affidavit stating that they witnessed someone commit the misdemeanor of passing a school bus while the stop arm signal device was extended.

Senator Bassler introduced a similar bill last session.

He says the bill is designed to increase safety for students traveling by bus while minimizing school bus stop arm violations in Indiana.

The bill would also allow law enforcement to give a citation to individuals who violate the school bus stop arm if a signed affidavit has been completed.
