Last updated on Monday, January 11, 2016

(TERRE HAUTE) - Police report a former standout college basketball player from Indiana has been accused of pouring bleach on his girlfriend, who said the substance may have partially blinded her and also splashed onto her toddler daughter.

CNHI News Service reports that 29-year-old Armon Bassett ,who played for Indiana University and Ohio University, was arrested by Terre Haute police on aggravated battery and domestic battery charges. He was jailed and bail set at $15,000. He is scheduled for court arraignment on the battery charges Tuesday.

According to police a 31-year-old woman told officers the incident occurred Wednesday night. She requested and received a court-issued protective order against Bassett.

The Terre Haute Tribune Star reported that Bassett and the woman were arrested in January of 2014 in Kentucky, and found in possession of illegal drugs, $1,060 in cash and two handguns.

Bassett played for Indiana University's varsity basketball team for two seasons (2006-2008) before he was dismissed from the team. He then transferred to Ohio University for one season (2009-2010), leading the Bobcats to the NCAA Tournament and an upset of No. 3 seeded Georgetown. He scored 32 points in the game.

Bassett was the star of the Terre Haute South basketball team that went to the final four of the state basketball tournament for large high schools in 2005. After his college career ended, he was taken by the Maine Red Claws in the NBA Development League draft, but cut from the team before the season started. He played for Ironi Ramat Gan of Israel, a professional team, during the 2010-2011 basketball season.
