Ellettsville Man Arrested After Police Say He Broke Into Apartment

(ELLETTSVILLE) - An Ellettsville man was arrested after police allege he broke into an apartment after getting into a disagreement over a prior drug deal with the person living there.

Bloomington Police arrested 18-year-old Kalem Tatem on felony charges of burglary, carrying a handgun without a license and theft.

Police say at 8:13 p.m. on Monday, a 20-year-old man told officers that he saw two males exit his apartment in the 400 block of South Walnut Street carrying a laptop and television.

According to a Bloomington police report, the man recognized Tatem as one of the men and saw him get into a dark-blue Honda Accord. The man took down the license plate number and gave it to police. Police determined the vehicle belonged to a family member of Tatem, who let him use the car.

When officers met with Tatem, they found property associated with the burglary, police said.

According to the report, Tatem told police he and another male conspired to steal from the man after a prior altercation over a drug deal. Tatem told police he was armed with a handgun, which belong and was licensed to a family members.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and other arrests are pending.
