E-Cigarette Explodes Causing Crash On I-65

(JACKSON CO.) - An E-Cigarette exploded, causing a driver to crash his semi.

According to an Indiana State Police report, troopers were called to an injury crash on I-65 near the 35.5 mile marker at the Jackson/Scott county line.

According to ISP Sgt. Brian Wilson, 45-year-old Christian Starasinich, of Orlando, FL., was traveling north on I-65 in a 2010 Freightliner when his electronic cigarette he was smoking malfunctioned and exploded injuring Starainich's face.

He then lost control of the semi, causing it to go off the right side of the roadway striking a guardrail.

Starasinich suffered no injuries from the crash, just facial injuries from the E-cigarette exploding.

Jackson County-On today's date, at approximately 12:00 PM, troopers from the Sellersburg and Versailles Posts responded to a personal injury crash on I-65 northbound near the 35.5 mile marker at the Jackson/Scott County line where a malfunctioning electronic cigarette injured the driver and was a contributing factor in the crash.

Starasinich was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of his injuries. His condition is unknown at this time.

Traffic was slowed in the area for approximately two hours while the crash was cleaned up.

The investigation is ongoing.

Assisting at the scene were other troopers from the Versailles and Sellersburg posts, the Crothersville Fire Department, Scott County EMS, Seymour Mack Wrecker, 31 Wrecker, and the Indiana Department of Transportation.
