Columbus Man Killed In Tree Cutting Accident

Last updated on Wednesday, January 27, 2016

(GNAW BONE) - The body of a Columbus man was found in Gnaw Bone Monday, two weeks after his family reported him missing.

Brown County Sheriff's Department officers found the body of 37-year-old Jesse King on a friend's property in the 7100 block of State Road 46 East near Jordan Lane.

The property owner called police about 9:30 p.m. Saturday to report that they and two other men were there looking for King and wanted police to help.

According to Public Information Officer Deputy Greg Pittman, King's stepfather contacted the property owner reporting the last time he had seen King was on January 9 after King had told his stepfather he was going to Brown County to cut firewood.

The property owner told police he had seen a truck there for a couple of days, but thought it belonged to his nephew and not King.

Family members looked for King, who was wearing camouflage clothing, around an unoccupied cabin and the area where the truck was parked, but had to give up the search because of darkness and the dense area of trees.

Officers discovered King's body Monday morning.

Deputy Pittman says the King had been cutting a tree when it fell pinning him underneath.
