Boys & Girls Club Of Lawrence County Partners With Duke Energy Program In Partnership With Duke Energy Foundation To Build Great Leaders

Last updated on Friday, January 22, 2016

(BEDFORD) - Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County is implementing a premiere teen character and citizenship program: the Keystone Club, thanks to a generous grant of $7,000 from Duke Energy Foundation.

The program will provide more activities for youth ages 14-18, creating engaged citizens within the community through four focus areas: Community service, academic success, career preparation and teen outreach.

"This is the continuation of a great partnership," said Bruce Calloway, government and community relations manager for Duke Energy. "We are pleased to support the youth and future of Lawrence County through leadership development and civic engagement emphasized by the Keystone Club and Youth Leadership Academy."

Keystone Club is a teen-driven, adult-supervised movement that seeks to provide the youth of Bedford with more extracurricular activities, decreasing the amount of loitering prevalent in the community. Through thought-driven projects that address key social issues, the Keystone Club provides a solid foundation for youth; and for our nation's future.

The continued character development that occurs in the Keystone program is equally as important as leadership development that occurs through project planning and implementation.

Keystone members learn to make ethical decisions, the importance of civic involvement, and the virtues of honesty, responsibility, integrity, self-discipline and trustworthiness.

Discussions and activities that address character development are critical components of the overall success of a Keystone Club, and the success of each individual teen.

The mission of the Lawrence County Youth Leadership Academy is to seek, prepare, involve and sustain young leaders from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds and teach them about the numerous assets and opportunities within the Lawrence County community.

This program connects today's youth with business and community leaders, while exposing tomorrow's leaders to ample opportunities with the Southern Indiana region.
