Students Spread Holiday Cheer

Last updated on Tuesday, December 22, 2015

(UNDATED) - This time of year in the school systems is marked with holiday movies, gift exchanges, cookies, candies and more.

But two local elementary class will be celebrating the true meaning of Christmas by giving to local charities. Shawswick Elementary School Student Council recently completed its annual food drive.

Several decorated bags of food were collected from the students and families at Shawswick Elementary. All food items were donated to the Salvation Army.

The students of Stephanie Arthur's third grade Bloomfield Elementary classroom decided that instead of giving gifts to one another, they would collect goods needed for the animals at SAFE Animal Rescue, located on Vincennes Street in Linton.

Arthur, who has taught for 19 years, said that this is the fourth year her class has participated in such activities.

The class collected a number of items, including paper towels, puppy pads, soft cat food and more. Arthur's class isn't just giving to SAFE this holiday season; they will also be decorating cookies during their classroom party to give to the custodial, kitchen and bus staff.
