Last updated on Thursday, December 3, 2015

(COLUMBUS) - Columbus Police arrested a Seymour man after he allegedly battered his girlfriend and their two-month-old child at a shopping mall Monday evening.

Police arrested 27-year-old Dustin M. Keefer on charges of battery on a person under 14 years of age, domestic battery in the presence of a minor, resisting arrest, public intoxication, neglect of a dependent.

Police were called to Eastbrook Plaza in the 2200 block of East 25th Street around 7:15 p.m.

A witness told police that Keefer struck his girlfriend as she held the baby in the parking lot.

Police apprehended Keefer, who left on foot, a short time later and gave him a portable breath test. Keefer blood-alcohol content was 0.324 percent.

His girlfriend told police that Keefer had been drinking all day and threw a cigarette lighter inside their vehicle that struck the child in the head. An argument ensued and Keefer allegedly grabbed the baby and dragged her out of the car seat by her leg before the mother was able to get the child back.

The witness heard a woman screaming for help in the parking lot and called police.

The child was checked by medics and later released back to her mother.
