(BLOOMFIELD) - An Operation Pull Over blitz traffic stop over the weekend landed a man and woman in jail and police recovering around 25 ounces of marijuana and packages of “edible marijuana.”
Bloomfield Police Officer Jordan Allor was patrolling U.S. 231 when he noticed a dark-colored car disregard a flashing red signal. Allor initiated a traffic stop, but the driver continued on a slow rate of speed until he reached a nearby establishment.
While Allor spoke with the driver, 42-year-old Michael M. Ruminski of Henderson, Ky., he detected a strong smell of marijuana and asked the driver to step out of the vehicle.
Ruminski allegedly told the officer there was marijuana in his car and that he was traveling from Ohio to Kentucky with the drug.
During a search of the vehicle, Allor located several large bags of marijuana and nearly a dozen packages of items called "edible marijuana." According to police "edible marijuana" contains up to 100 mg of THC, a component of marijuana. Items ranged from a marshmallow treat and chocolate-flavored treat.
Ruminski failed a field sobriety test. He submitted to a blood test and those results are pending.
Ruminski and his passenger, 39-year-old Christine M. Ruminski, also of Henderson, Ky., are facing preliminary charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Michael Ruminski is also facing an additional charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
This was not the first drug arrest over the weekend.
An English woman is facing charges of possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while her driver's license was suspended with a prior conviction.
Police arrested 29-year-old Sarah Dowdle of English.
In addition, 19-year-old Gage Seaborn of Shelbyville was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana.
All arrests were made by Allor.
Bloomfield Town Marshal Kenny Tharp credited the grant program for paying officers' voluntary overtime hours to do the additional patrols during Operation Pull Over and ultimately get the drugs off the streets.
