(PAOLI) - A semi-truck and trailer caused the historic iron bridge on South Gospel Street in Paoli to collapse into Lick Creek Christmas afternoon.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Department the accident happened at 12:12 p.m. No one was hurt, but experts continue to surveying how to go about removing the truck eased by Penske Truck Leasing to Louisville Logistics and its trailer which contained bottled water.

A sign at the bridge notes that semis were prohibited from crossing it with a weight restriction of 6 tons.

Crews were still on the scene after 7 p.m. contemplating how to remove the semi and save the bridge. Officials say the bridge dates back to 1880 and is owned by the county, but the road is owned by the town of Paoli.

For now, those attempting to cross the bridge will have to find another route until the area is cleared.
