Ron Grimes Wins Mitchell Lighting Contest, Bess Family Wins In Orleans

Last updated on Wednesday, December 23, 2015

(UNDATED) - Ron Grimes won the Greater Mitchell Chamber of Commerce’s holiday lighting contest.

Grimes, a retired teacher and golf coach, begins decorating his home at 31 Oak Lane in October and does all the work with his son-in-law Brandon Martin for his grandchildren.

Besides the thousands of lights, his yard has twelve inflatable decorations.

In Orleans the top Christmas light display was the home of Walter and Mary Bess.

The couple has been decorating their home at 687 N. Maple St. for at least 10 years.

Their home shares the true meaning of Christmas displaying the birth and death of Jesus Christ, with a large blue cross and a large manger scene.

All eight of the couple's children help with the decorating.

The Orleans Chamber's Choice Award went to Ernie and Renee Sluss at 711 N. Maple.
