(BLOOMINGTON) - The majority of holiday tree consumers who purchase cut trees recycle their tree in recycling programs, their garden, or backyard.
The Monroe County Solid Waste Management District recommends placing holiday trees in your yard as a brush pile to create habitat for wildlife and nutrients for the soil.
If that's not possible bring the tree to one of the District's five recycling centers: South Walnut Recycling Center on Walnut Street, Westside Recycling Center on North Oarad Road, Southside Recycling Center on West Dillman Road or Northeast Recycling Center on East Bethel Lane.
The recycling centers will accept trees between December 26 and January 16.
The drop off collection service is sponsored by the District, in partnership with Republic Services and Good Earth LLC. The mulch is then sold in the spring.
