(CRANE) - The conglomeration currently known as Naval Support Activity-Crane (NSA) first started construction 75 years ago this month.

NSA Crane houses Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division (NSWC) and Crane Army Ammunition Activity (CAAA), which started in the 1940s as a desperate need for the Navy to have a safe location to build ordnances for the war.

The Greene County Daily World reports, to kickoff the 75-year celebration, Peggy Julian, a retired NSWC Crane leader, and Tony Haag, senior leader at Crane and serves as a senior engineer at the Pentagon, presented the information they have learned about the establishment of Crane Naval Ammunition Depot during World War II.

The two have recently completed a book called "The World War II History of NAD Crane."

The book explains the time frame during the 1940s when the area went "from wilderness to the Navy's most productive Naval Ammunition Depot."

Over the course of the next seven decades, NAD Crane continued to grow and become the home of two defense services, NSWC and CAAA.

Julian and Haag said they are currently working with Crane and their publisher to make the book available.

The two are hopeful the publication will be available soon. To learn more about when the book will be available, email CraneHistoryBook@gmail.com.
