(BEDFORD) - A Mitchell man was sentenced to 8 years in prison after he plead guilty to dealing meth.

29-year-old Evan Barnhart was sentenced by Lawrence County Superior Court II Judge William Sleva to eight years with the Indiana Department of Correction, with two years suspended, on the Class B felony after Barnhart plead guilty to the charge on November 23.

Judge Sleva ordered that six years of Barnhart's sentence would be served in prison. The remaining two years will be served on supervised probation.

As part of the plea agreement, the state dismissed two felony count of maintaining a common nuisance and a count of possession of a precursor and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Once on probation, Judge Sleva ordered Barnhart to participate in the ADAPT program, submit to drug screens and pay the fees for the screens, and refrain from the use or possession of alcohol or controlled substances.

According to a probable cause affidavit Barnhart was arrested on a warrant for dealing meth in December 2013 after officers went to his home to arrest him on another warrant for maintaining a common nuisance, possession of precursors and drug paraphernalia. An Indiana State Police officer had received a tip that Barnhart was making meth in his bedroom.

In the bedroom officers found several items used to make meth.
