(ORLEANS) - The Board of Trustees of Orange County Rural Electric Community Fund, Inc. announced the next round of grants following their recent board meeting.

Two grants totaling $1,700 were approved for distribution.

Operation Round Up grants were awarded to Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services and Orange County Publishing Great Spelling Bee.

This round of awards brings the total amount disbursed by Operation Round Up to $382,781 since the inception of the program in 2002.

The Orange County Rural Electric Community Fund, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization sponsored by the local electric cooperative through its Operation Round Up program. Orange County REMC members who participate in the program allow the REMC to round their monthly electric bill up to the next highest dollar. These small monthly donations are then combined together in a separate fund to support worthwhile causes inside the Orange County REMC service territory. These funds, like any other funds collected by the REMC, are democratically controlled by members, maintaining cooperative autonomy. The Operation Round Up Board of Trustees oversees all Operation Round Up funds.

The Trustees will meet again on March 14, 2016 to review new grant applications and determine which applicants will receive funding. Grant applications are available at the Orange County REMC headquarters located at 7133 North State Road 337, Orleans or the REMC website at www.myremc.coop. Any individual, group, or organization is eligible to apply for a grant as long as they are located within Orange County REMC's service territory consisting of Orange County and parts of Lawrence, Washington, Crawford, and Martin Counties. The deadline for the next round of grant application is February 26, 2016.

The Operation Round Up program allows REMC members to reach out to worthy causes in their communities and work together to help others, focusing on the needs of the members and sustaining the development of the community. At present nearly 67% of Orange County REMC's members participate in the Operation Round Up program. Operation Round Up funds will not be awarded to pay utility bills or as political contributions.

Orange County REMC is an equal opportunity provider and employer. Located in Orleans, IN, this electric utility cooperative serves over 8,000 members in Orange, Martin, Lawrence, Washington and Crawford Counties. For more information about the cooperative visit www.myremc.coop.
