(BLOOMINGTON) - Jeff Ellington, former Monroe County councilman and Monroe County recorder, was appointed to the District 62 State Representative seat after the Republican Caucus Monday evening.

Ellington announced his intention to seek the seat December 1.

Ellington will be replacing former Representative Matt Ubelhor, who announced he would vacate his seat in the beginning of December.

The term ends November of 2016.

Ellington faced a barrage of competition at the Republican caucus including: Linton-Stockton School Board Member John Preble, Greene County Commissioner Nathan Abrams, Public Relations, Marketing and Business Development Manager for Greene County General Hospital Amy Lore, R.Ph. (registered pharmacist) Julia Bartlow and Skip Daley.

The Republican Caucus was held at Bloomfield Jr./Sr. High School and began at 6:30 p.m., and lasted almost two hours.

Greene County GOP Chairman Paul Clark explained there were five votes cast before a decision was made.
For the caucus, 36 precinct committeemen from the district voted.

Ellington said he was humble for the opportunity to serve this region.

"I will work hard for the people of District 62. I will take this opportunity to advance job creation, pay close attention to our schools, and keep our Hoosier values," Ellington said.

Ellington explained he had been a Monroe County councilman from 1997 to 2005.

"I was appointed Monroe County recorder in 2014 after the death of Jim Fielder. And I served on the Monroe County Plan Commission for four years. I have the knowledge of local and district issues to serve effectively in the Indiana General Assembly," said Ellington.

Ellington said he is a proud husband and father of two and has owned a tree-servicing business for more than 35 years.

Currently, Ellington said he is employed as a city firefighter.
