(BLOOMINGTON) - A Saturday night drug bust on the newly-opened section of I-69 south of Bloomington netted a large haul of marijuana, thousands of dollars in cash and a loaded firearm.
The incident began with a traffic stop by an Indiana state trooper of a vehicle traveling 72 mph in the 45 mph construction zone where the interstate merges with State Road 37. During the stop, the trooper became suspicious when he heard conflicting stories from three occupants in the car.
A state police narcotics dog, Drogos, alerted officers to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. A search found 25 pounds of pot, more than $17,000 in cash and a loaded firearm. One of the passengers was wanted on an active arrest warrant.
State police say the suspects were from Evansville, heading to Indianapolis with the marijuana.
Police arrested 32-year-old Brian Steiner of Evansville, 29-year-old Kelli Steiner and 34-year-old Joshua Burgess, both of Indianapolis, on charges of dealing marijuana over 10 pounds, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of marijuana.
All three were transported to, processed and lodged at the Monroe County Jail.
