Heltonville Man Arrested After Threatening To Kill Everyone In House

Last updated on Wednesday, December 9, 2015

(HELTONVILLE) - A Heltonville man was arrested after he threatened to kill everyone in the house, battered a woman and then fled.

On Monday, Lawrence County Police arrested 34-year-old Christopher Meadows on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and battery resulting in bodily injury.

Police were called to the home in the 7600 block of State Road 58 East at 10:15 p.m. A woman called police to report that Meadows had a gun and was making threats to kill everyone in the house.

The woman told police Meadows was upset because he had been involved in a traffic accident. He also blamed the woman he had with him for causing the accident.

While Lawrence County officers and Indiana State Troopers were heading to the home, the woman called back saying Meadows had left in a gray station wagon.

A county officer passed the vehicle at Roberts Lane and State Road 58. By the time the officer got turned around the vehicle was gone. Another officer spotted it on U.S. 50 East near D&D Star Stop and pulled Meadows over.

The woman whom police say Meadows battered was also in the vehicle.

Police determined that Meadows had been drinking. He was taken to IU Health Hospital for a blood draw.

Officers then took the woman to the police station, but she refused to file charges against Meadows.

She did tell police that between 3 and 3:30 p.m. the two had been involved in an accident in Martinsville on their way to Indianapolis. They fled the scene. Police did catch up with them and conducted an investigation and released Meadows, who was driving the station wagon.

The woman told police the two argued on their way back from Indianapolis and that Meadows had pulled the vehicle to the side of the road and ordered the woman to get out. She refused. Meadows then allegedly attempted to pull her out of the vehicle and ripped her shirt sleeve.

The couple arrived at the Heltonville home between 9 and 9:30 p.m.

Meadows asked the woman to give him some of her prescription medication, but she refused causing Meadows to get angry. He then allegedly slapped her on the side of the face and ear, pulled her hair and pushed her down the porch steps.

Meadows then attempted to leave, but because he had been drinking, another male at the house had taken his keys, preventing him from leaving.

Meadows then went back into the house and came out with a gun threatening to kill everyone, but he didn't point the gun at anyone.
