(LINTON) - Firefighters from Linton and Wright Township spent hours battling a blaze that destroyed a barn and garage in the 1600 block of North County Road 1420 in Linton.

The Greene County Daily World reports that firefighters were alerted to the blaze just before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the property of John and Lori Sigland. The couple were not home at the time of the fire.

When firefighters arrived the buildings were engulfed in flames.

Linton Fire Chief Brad Sparks says firefighters went into a defensive attack to contain the blaze to keep it spreading to the home.

Firefighters were able to save all of the livestock inside of the barn.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Chief Sparks believes a heat lamp may have sparked the blaze.

Welding materials and fuel tanks caused the fire to spread quickly because of explosions. Sparks says there was also some ammunition in one of the buildings, which also caused some small explosions.

No one was injured while battling the fire.

When Linton firefighters were alerted to the blaze they were busy freeing more than 100 hogs after a semi-tractor trailer overturned on its way to a Lyons farm from St. Louis overturned into a ditch on County Road 300 South, just east of County Road 1575 West, in Pleasantville.

According to Chief Sparks, the door which would normally open to the hogs was inaccessible, so the department had to cut through the aluminum side of the semi.

The department removed about 130, 300-pound hogs over the course of several hours.
