(MEROM) - State police and the family of an 85-year-old retired farmer found shot to death in his Merom home three years ago are asking the public to come forward with information that could help solve the case.

Police say Lowell Badger was found fatally shot on December 8, 2012, in his home. Badger's son, Alan, says there are many pieces to the puzzle and one piece someone has might help find the killer.

Badger was discovered by his son on his bedroom floor. Lowell died from a gunshot wound.

Electronics and other items were found missing from the residence. Taken during the burglary was a light to medium dark gray safe, measuring 23.5 inches tall, 17 inches in depth, and 17 inches wide. Police say it was in pristine condition and manufactured by John D. Brush and Company. Also taken was a black 46" Sony Bravia LCD television.

State Police Lt. Jeff Hearon says tips are still coming in. He says police need someone with knowledge of the case to step forward.

Sullivan County Councilman Duane Wampler says the unsolved homicide has caused fear in the community.

The Indiana State Police Department has dedicated a web page to information about the Lowell Badger homicide. For the most current updates in this investigation, citizens are encouraged to visit http://www.in.gov/isp/2906.htm.

Anyone with information in the case is urged to call Indiana State Police Detective First Sergeant Jeff Hearon or Detective Tom Hanks at the Putnamville Post, (765) 653-4114.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Anyone with information can call 238-STOP or go to the Crime Stoppers website to leave tips. Tips will remain anonymous.
