(VAN BUREN TWP.) - A family is in need of clothing and other necessities after losing their home to fire the day after Christmas.

The Brown County Democrat reports that Kathy Smith and her daughter Kelsey Conley lost everything they owned.

John Ward, Van Buren Volunteer Fire Department chief, says when firefighters arrived at the home in the 7000 block of State Road 135 South the home was engulfed in flames.

Conley's boyfriend was home when the fire started and ran to a neighbor's home to call 911.

Fruitdale and Hamblen Township Volunteer Fire Departments also responded with tankers. Nashville Volunteer Fire Department also responded with two engines and additional manpower.

Firefighters were on the scene for several hours putting out the blaze. Firefighters had a few trouble spots in the basement area that kept rekindling.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A GoFundMe page was setup to support Smith and her family.

Donations of clothing are also being accepted. Smith wears medium size shirts, size 0 to 1 pants and a size 9 shoe. Conley wears a small shirt size, size 0 pants and size 7 shoe. Donations can be dropped off at the Pine Room Tavern on Chestnut Street next door to Family Dollar.

Conley and Smith both have places to stay until they can move into a new home.
