(BLOOMINGTON) - Hungry students at Indiana University won’t have to wonder where their next meal will come from.
Indiana Networks reports, on Tuesday, the school celebrated the grand opening of Crimson Cupboard-the first-ever food pantry that will cater to the needs of IU students.
As part of an internship program, pantry founder Mercedes Jones interviewed faculty, students and staff to shed light on the scope of the campus-wide issue.
"We assume that, oh we're at this Big Ten school; everyone has food, and that's not the case at all," said Jones.
Jones started a 'Go Fund Me' page that helped fill the shelves.
She says many students are having to choose between paying their rent and buying groceries.
Jones adds that it's important to realize that not all college students are rich and not all students are financially supported by parents and/or financial aid.
