Bedford's National Guard Armory Closed For Lead Testing

Last updated on Thursday, December 3, 2015

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Indiana National Guard Armory is closed until further notice to conduct lead testing.

According to Col. Cathy Van Bree, about 80 percent of the armories in the state were closed for testing. Once the results are back and within acceptable lead levels the armories will re-open.

Officials apologized for the inconvenience, saying safety must be a priority.

The sudden closure left local organizations scrambling to find other locations for holiday events.

The Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services Christmas Tour of Homes is Sunday and starts at the armory. Now the tour will start at First Christian Church at 15th and K streets.

The ABATE Toys for Tots Christmas party, scheduled for December 20, and the city of Bedford's Christmas party will have to find new locations to hold their events.
