Last updated on Friday, November 13, 2015

(BEDFORD) - Approximately 60 to 70 trees at Otis Park that have been marked for removal.

According to Parks Director Barry Jeskewich the parks and recreation department will down the trees when the ground freezes. Then individuals will be able to come to the golf course and remove the trees at their own expense.

The Times-Mail reports that most of the trees or dead or dying after being attacked by the emerald ash borer, a green-colored beetle native to Asia that made its way to North America and has decimated an estimated 25 million trees.

Officials say eliminating the trees will make the golf course safer.

The goal is to replace all of the trees that are taken down and plant additional trees in new areas.
