Good Samaritan Cross Country 5K To Raise Funds For Boy To Receive New Heart

(BEDFORD) - The family of 4-year-old Cohen Austin, is working with the Children’s Organ Transplant Association in Bloomington to raise $50,000 to help pay for Cohen to receive a new heart.

The first fundraising event is The Good Samaritan Cross Country 5K. The event will be held on November 14 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1503 W. That Road, in Bloomington. The race begins at 10:30 a.m. Runners can register now for $20, after November 11 the cost jumps to $25. Participants can register on the Mag 7 Race Series website.

Cohen, the son of Chris and Ashley Austin of Bedford, suffers from restrictive cardiomyopathy. The family attends Mount Pleasant Christian Church where Chris is youth minister. More fundraising events will be announced at a later date.

Donations to help pay transplant expenses can be mailed to the Children's Organ Transplant Association, 2501 W. COTA Drive, Bloomington, IN 47403. Checks or money orders should be made payable to COTA, with "In Honor of Cohen A." written on the memo line of the check.
