State Rep. Steve Davisson To Unveil Signage For Orange County Veterans Memorial Highway

Last updated on Tuesday, November 24, 2015

(FRENCH LICK) - Today State Rep. Steve Davisson (R-Salem) will unveil the signage that will be used for the Orange County Veterans Memorial Highway.

The event is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. at the French Lick Springs Hotel in the Truman Room

Davisson authored the resolution honoring Indiana's Vietnam veterans during the 2015 legislative session.

The bill co-authored by State Rep. Lloyd Arnold (R-Leavenworth), urged the Indiana Department of Transportation to establish the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway, located at State Road 56 and U.S. 150 between Paoli and French Lick.

"When many of these honorable individuals came home from Vietnam, they often did not receive the welcome they deserved," says Rep. Davisson. "I felt this was an opportunity to thank them not just once, but every day, for their bravery and dedication to our freedom."

The Vietnam War was one of the longest wars in our nation's history. Approximately 187,600 men and women from Indiana served in the war, and of those 1,625 resided in Orange County.

During the war, a total of 1,534 Hoosiers were killed in action. In their honor, HCR 23 would rename part of Indiana State Road 56 and U.S. 150 that converge as a single roadway as the Orange County Veterans Memorial Highway.

Secondly, the bridge spanning Lick Creek, at U.S. 150 and State Road 56, would be designated the Orange County Vietnam Veterans Bridge.

Rep. Davisson represents parts of Washington, Orange, Lawrence, Jackson, Clark and Harrison Counties. Rep. Arnold (R-Leavenworth) represents portions of Spencer, Dubois, Perry, Crawford and Orange counties
