(BLOOMINGTON) - A special prosecutor has been appointed to investigate Monroe County Auditor Steve Saulter and his alleged misuse of a county auditor’s office credit card.
Circuit Court Judge Marc R. Kellams on Wednesday appointed Sonia J. Leerkamp, a former prosecuting attorney in Hamilton County, to investigate "alleged criminal activity involving Steve Saulter."
The investigation began after Monroe County Prosecutor Chris Gaal received information in November from the sheriff's department about unauthorized purchases on the county's credit card.
Sheriff Brad Swain says they began their investigation in October and found more than 10 questionable purchases that occurred this year.
