Robbery Turns Deadly As Store Owner Killed

(AUSTIN) - Someone entered John’s Coin and Jewelry Shop at 61 West Main Street in Austin and robbed, shot and killed the store owner, 79-year-old John Turner.

According to police, Turner's body was found by family members inside the shop.

Austin City Police and a Scott County EMS ambulance rushed to the scene thinking Turner had suffered a medical condition and injured his head when he fell.

However police soon found Turner had been shot in the head.

The investigation immediately turned into a murder investigation with the Austin City Police Department requesting the assistance of the Indiana State Police. Indiana State Police Crime Scene Technicians and detectives processed the crime scene then immediately began following leads.

ISP Sgt. Jerry D. Goodin, says an autopsy was performed at the Kentucky Medical Examiner's Office in Louisville, today. The autopsy revealed the that Turner died from a gunshot wound to the head.

The Scott County Sheriff's Department, the Scott County Prosecutor's Office and the Scottsburg City Police Department are also assisting in the investigation.
