(NEEDMORE) - A Needmore man was arrested after he allegedly choked a woman and then wouldn’t let her leave.

Lawrence County police were alerted to the incident after an emergency room employee at IU Heath Hospital called police just after 8 p.m. Thursday to report that they were treating a woman who had suffered a concussion and had marks around her neck from being choked.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Mike Branham, the woman first told hospital staff that she had fallen but she then she told staff what really happened once 24-year-old Bradley Barger left for work.

"She said that they got into an argument about him being controlling," Branham added. "He then allegedly pushed her causing her to fall and hit her head on the wall causing a concussion. She then said Mr. Barger choked her until she passed out. He had also bit her."

When the woman came to. She tried to leave, but Barger pushed her away from the door. Two and a half hours later she was able to seek medical attention.

Once treated at the hospital, Sheriff Branham says the woman came to the police department where she filed a police report. Police then went to Taco Bell and arrested Barger on charges of domestic battery, strangulation and criminal confinement. He remains in jail with no bond set because he was out on bond from a previous arrest at the time of this new charge.

Barger has a history of domestic violence. He was arrested on July 30 after a warrant was issued for his arrest on a charge of domestic battery. He was also arrested on September 19, 2014 on a charge of domestic battery and theft.
