(MITCHELL) - Mitchell Police officers are warning residents about an IRS scam flooding the area.

According to officials, residents in the Mitchell area are receiving phone calls from both men and women claiming to be IRS agents.

They say the intended person owes money and will have them arrested if they don't pay up.

"When the resident hangs up they are receiving a second call," says Dispatcher Bill Sallee. "The second call is from a woman with an accent saying she is with the Mitchell Police Department and that there is an arrest warrant for the resident."

Sallee added that the number on the caller ID is coming up Mitchell Police Department.

Police warn this is a scam and no calls are being made to residents from the Mitchell Police Department.

Officials say don't give any personal information to these people.

If you think you owe back taxes, contact the IRS directly.
