(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Supreme Court, in a unanimous order, denied a request from convicted killer John Myers II to review his case.
40-year-old Myers is serving a 65-year sentence in Michigan City for his 2006 murder conviction in the killing of 19-year-old Jill Behrman. The IU freshman disappeared during a May 2000 bike ride. Her skeletal remains were discovered nearly three years later by a hunter in a remote Morgan County field about 15 miles north of Bloomington. Behrman had been fatally shot in the head.
The state appeals court and a Morgan County judge both have rejected arguments from Myers that he didn't receive a fair trial because of mistakes by his defense attorney, Patrick Baker, whose law license was suspended for six months for misconduct surrounding the case.
Myers will be 62-year-old when he is released on April 7, 2038.
