Fire At Bloomington's Golden Living Center Evacuated After Early Morning Fire

Last updated on Wednesday, November 25, 2015

(BLOOMINGTON) - An early morning fire at Golden Living Center at 155 East Burks Drive has been put out and the residents of the center are heading back in the senior living center.

The Living Center is located just off South Walnut Street.

According to Bloomington police, buses were used to house about 20 residents from the cold weather.

Staff was alerted to the fire after a smoke detector went off.

Some residents had to be evacuated by being taken out of windows to avoid exposure to the smoke.

According to firefighters, some residents suffered smoke inhalation. Those residents were treated at the scene. All of the residents were then moved to the center's dining hall, which was away from the fire and smoke.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but firefighters believe equipment failure most likely sparked the blaze.
