Build A Nesting Box For Gray Squirrels At Paynetown Dec. 3

Last updated on Tuesday, November 24, 2015

(PAYNETOWN) - Help grey squirrels by building them a nesting box during a December 3 workshop at Paynetown State Recreation Area on Monroe Lake.

The workshop starts at 6 p.m. and will last 90 minutes to two hours. Registration is required by November 30 at bit.ly/squirrelbox2015.

Participants will assemble and decorate a wood nesting box and learn about grey squirrel mating and nesting behavior.

The cost is $25 per kit. Eight kits are available, and two people may work together on the same kit.

"It may seem too early to start thinking about nesting, but grey squirrel boxes should be erected in January or February, before squirrel mating season," says Jill Vance, Monroe Lake's interpretive naturalist.

Vance said a hand-assembled and decorated nesting box could be a unique gift for a friend or family member with a backyard.
