(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man was arrested after he told police he robbed a liquor store because he needed money to buy heroin.

Bloomington police arrested 29-year-old Adam Nardi within hours of him allegedly robbing Hoosier Liquors at 713 West 17th Street, Tuesday night.

Officers were called after Nardi allegedly entered the store demanding money from the cash register and then ran from the store with the money.

Police were alerted to the robbery at 6:23 p.m.

According to Bloomington Police Sgt. Joe Crider Nardi did not display a weapon and no one was hurt during the incident.

Officers were given a description of Nardi and an officer spotted in in a Nissan Altima stopped in traffic at 17th and Maple Street.

Officers found the cash, the jacket he was wearing at the time of the robbery and a syringe in the backseat of the car.

A male driver and female passenger told police they didn't know about the robbery, and they were released from the scene.

Police used video surveillance footage from the liquor store and the clerk's description to identify Nardi as the robbery suspect.

Nardi is now facing felony charges of robbery and was taken to the Monroe County Jail and is being held on a $5,000 surety, $500 cash bond.
