Bedford Man Arrested After Smacking and Choking Woman

Last updated on Thursday, November 12, 2015

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after he allegedly slapped a woman in the face, buttocks and back Wednesday afternoon.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, a woman pulled up next to a Bedford Police officer's vehicle which was parked in the parking lot of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Parsley says the woman was "visibly upset".

The woman told the officer that she and 46-year-old Matthew Soshia had gotten into a verbal argument because she had obtained a driver's license.

During the dispute Soshia allegedly smashed the woman's cell phone.

"In retaliation she then busted his laptop computer," Parsley added. "That is when Mr. Soshia allegedly then smacked the woman on the left side of her face, her buttock and lower back. He then choked her with both hands."

The woman gave police consent to search the couple's home in the 500 block of V Street and that is where they found Soshia. He was arrested without incident on a charge of battery.
