Audrey Schlegel To Represent Distinguished Young Women During State Contest

(BEDFORD) - Audrey Schlegel, a senior at Mitchell High School, was chosen Saturday night to represent Lawrence County in the 2016 Distinguished Young Women scholarship program.

Fourteen senior girls from both Mitchell and Bedford competed in the program at Schafer Auditorium Saturday. The sponsors of this year's scholarships include Hoosier Hills Credit Union, Bedford Lions Club, Tri Kappa of Mitchell and Tri Kappa of Bedford.

Schlegel also received awards for creative and performing arts and interviews, self-expression, fitness. Her scholarships totaled $3,100.

Mitchell senior Anna Kluender was named first runner-up and received a $1,100 scholarship. BNL senior Ali Adams was second runner-up and received a $500 scholarship, and Caitlin Mefford, a BNL senior, was third runner-up.

Schlegel, the daughter of Vicky Schlegel, will represent Lawrence County in February at the Indiana Distinguished Young Women program in Kokomo.

Ten category awards ($200 scholarships) were presented along with the Spirit of Distinguished Young Women ($250).
