Woman Robs Peoples State Bank Using Threat Of Explosives

Last updated on Monday, October 5, 2015

(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington woman was arrested after she robbed Peoples State Bank near her home Saturday morning.

According to a Bloomington Police report, 26-year-old Dacia Robert entered the bank at 202 West 17t Street at 11:48 a.m. and asked the bank teller to make a withdrawal. When the teller asked for Robert's identification she returned to her 2015 white Chrysler. The teller attempted to process the transaction which was declined. Roberts then got on her cellphone and mentioned that she was at the bank by the house.

After her withdrawal was declined, Roberts typed a message on her phone and showed it to the teller. The message demanded the teller give her all of the $20 bills from her cash drawer because Roberts needed a new heart and that she had a bomb strapped to her chest.

The teller complied, placing about $2,000 on the counter. The teller began to place more money on the counter, but Roberts told her to stop and then left.

Officers spotted Robert's vehicle in the 1400 block of North Woodburn Avenue. Roberts was arrested at 1:36 p.m.

Roberts initially told officers that the teller had given her too much money. She then offered to return the money, which the officers recovered after securing search warrants for both Roberts' vehicle and the residence in which she was found. They found no evidence of a bomb.

Police recovered $1,840 of the stolen money. Roberts then confessed to the crime saying she'd told the teller that she had kids and had said "please" and "thank you" in her message.

Roberts is facing a preliminary charge of robbery.
