Woman Dies In House Fire

Last updated on Monday, October 26, 2015

(COVEYVILLE) - One person is dead after a fire destroyed a home Sunday in the 3100 block of Coveyville Road.

Lawrence County Sheriff Mike Branham says 37-year-old Mandie Tolliver Prince died in the blaze.

Mandie is the daughter of Tim and Dana Prince and leaves behind a daughter.

An autopsy is scheduled for today.

Branham says Tolliver's body was found in the bathroom of the mobile home.

"Firefighters believe the fire started in the area of the furnace, but, according to the state fire marshal, the cause is still under investigation and it will take time to determine exactly what caused the fire."

The person who reported the fire said that he heard calls for help and tried to go into the house to rescue Tolliver, but couldn't because of the smoke.

"Firefighters had to go through a wall to get to where she was because there were no windows in the bathroom," Branham says.

The fire was reported at 12:22 p.m. Firefighters from Pleasant Run, Shawswick, Marshall and Oolitic Volunteer Fire Departments responded. Firefighters were told a woman was trapped inside.

The home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

Lawrence County detectives and the coroner was contacted.

The State Fire Marshal was requested to respond at 1:55 p.m. Sunday.

Firefighters were on the scene until after 10 p.m.
