White River Humane Society Needs Your Donations To Treat Injured Animals

Last updated on Wednesday, October 14, 2015

(BEDFORD) - The White River Humane Society needs your help treating injured animals.

Abuse or neglect is not a life for any animal, but it happens. When broken or injured animals find their way to the shelter's doorstep the staff treat those sick or injured animals. But medical treatment is expensive and without your support the shelter can't do that.

In June, a Lawrence County Animal Control officer picked up a dog near Beaver Creek Bridge. He was severely starved with every rib protruding. He had knots, lymph nodes full of infection, on each side of his neck. On his hindquarters were pressure sores thought to be caused from confinement for a long period of time in a crate, probably too small for him. His legs were covered in urine stains and burns. His ears were a matted mess with infection and ear mites. In spite of all that was wrong with this dog, he wagged his tail.

Fortunately, he was heartworm negative, which determined he was a savable dog and with medical care and lots of
nourishment he could certainly survive and live a productive life. The dog was named Slim Jim, but that name doesn't describe him now. Slim Jim, with your donations, has made a full recovery.

The shelter is currently treating seven dogs for heartworm, two dogs hit by cars, one with a broken leg and pelvis, the other a broken lower jaw. A cat had to have her eye removed and two others lost tails due to injury. Some of these animals will continue life with imperfections, but they will continue life, thanks to generous donations.

To make a contribution toward the shelter's medical fund visit there website at www.whiteriverhumanesociety.org or mail it to White River Humane Society, P.O. box 792, Bedford, Ind. 47421 or drop it off at the shelter at 3511 Pumphouse Road in Bedford.
