Last updated on Friday, October 2, 2015

(BEDFORD) - Two people were arrested after Bedford Police Department received a report of three suspicious people at the Jackson Mini Mart on Mitchell Road on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers were called to the gas station at 3:46 p.m. after customers complained to employees that the three people outside the station were asking for money and being obnoxious.

When police arrived they found 27-year-old Amanda Pelfree and 39-year-old John Sanders and a third female. Sanders was walking around the building and police watched him place an item under a rock.

Sanders told police they were all homeless and were attempting to go to Mitchell.

"All three were on foot and each had large duffle bags," Parsley says. "All gave police consent to search their bags."

In Sander's bag police found a metal container filled with syringes, a glass smoking device and empty pill bottles. They also found a morphine sulfate pill which Sander's did not have a prescription for.

Under the rock police located a leather pouch that contained baggies of a crystal substance that tested positive for meth.

In Pelfree's bag officers located a pill that had the identification filed off, a ct straw with a white powder substance which she used to snort the pills. The pill was later identified as Alprazolam.

Officers found no drugs in the other female's bag and she was released.

Sanders was arrested on charges of possession of meth, possession of a schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Pelfree was arrested on charges of possession of a schedule IV controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
