(MITCHELL) - Two people were injured after the vehicle they were in crashed into a ravine.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, when police and Marion Volunteer Fire Department first responders arrived early Monday morning on Ind.60 East, near Spring Mill State Park, they couldn't locate the accident scene.

LCPD Capt. Troy Lobosky spotted one tail light shining about 100 feet down a large wooded embankment about 1,300 feet from the intersection of Hollace Chastain Road on the north side of the roadway.

Police, first responders and the ambulance crew were able to climb down the embankment to the vehicle, finding 30-year-old Johnathan Dockery of Mitchell and his 9-year-old son on the ground next to the vehicle.

The son complained of severe stomach pain. Johnathan complained of severe hip and leg pain.

Both were carried up the embankment to a waiting ambulance which transported both to the Mitchell VWF post to await two helicopters. Johnathan was taken to University of Louisville Hospital and his son was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville.

According to police, Johnathan's 2001 Ford SE left the north side of Ind. 60, going airborne and striking a large tree at approximately 6-feet from the ground. The car then continued north, flipping end-over-end and coming to a stop on the driver's side in a large ravine. Police say there were no tire marks on the roadway.

Johnathan told police before being transported that he was traveling west on Ind. 60 and swerved to miss a block in the roadway which caused his right tires to leave the roadway and crash.

He also told police that both he and his son were wearing seatbelts prior to the accident which officers were able to confirm at the scene.
