Teen Arrested After Injuring Family, Destroying Home

Last updated on Wednesday, October 28, 2015

(BEDFORD) - A 15-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday after he became upset with his parents, attacked his father, and destroyed his home.

Police arrested Taylor Storm after police received a 911 call from 936 Trinton Circle reporting Storm was attacking his father with a knife. This was not the first time police had been called to the home because of the teen's behavior.

Storms faces felony charges, including two counts of battery with a deadly weapon, intimidation, two counts of criminal recklessness with a weapon, criminal mischief and battery with bodily injury.

According to Sheriff Mike Branham, the teen became upset after his parents told him to clean up the bathroom after he had taken a shower.

"There was a verbal dispute with cursing and obscenities," he added. "And his father said he was going to call police. That's when be became angry and started breaking things. He hit the father, had him in a headlock and bit and scratched him saying he was going to kill them (his parents)."

The teen then grabbed a 2X4 board and hit the father in the hand, went in the kitchen and started grabbing knives.

The fighting continued until Storms went outside. That is when his parents closed and held the door shut until police arrived.

"The 15-year-old grabbed a splitting maul, knocked a side window out of a truck, started hitting the house, knocked the window out of the front door, went into the house and started, basically, just trashing it with a splitting maul," Branham added. "There was major damage throughout the house - broken windows, broken glass, TVs laying on the floor - complete disarray."

Storms went outside again and that is when his father was able to subdued him until Lawrence County and Indiana State Police arrived.

Besides the damage police found a number of knives and the splitting maul in one of the rooms.

Storms' father suffered swelling and bruising to his left hand and wrist, an abrasion to his right knee and marks on his face, neck and abdomen. His mother also suffered head and hand injuries. One of his siblings, a girl, complained of pain to her arm and face and had a visible neck injury.

Storms complained of pain to his shoulder and was short of breath, Branham added.

An Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital ambulance responded along with Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department first responders who treated the injured. Storm was taken to a local hospital and then to Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center. The Department of Child Services also were notified.
