(BLOOMINGTON) - Students involved in Indiana University’s Alpha Tau Omega chapter sex video scandal could still face disciplinary action.
ATO's National Fraternity has revoked the IU chapter's charter after a video went viral on social media of members performing a sex act on an exotic dancer while in the presence of several other chapter members.
"Our investigation revealed that no pledge was compelled to participate," ATO National Fraternity CEO Wynn Smiley wrote in an email. "Regardless, the actions are contrary to the ideals and principles of Alpha Tau Omega and are highly offensive."
IU is still investigating whether the students involved violated its Student Code of Conduct. If the investigation uncovers violations, the students would each have to attend a hearing.
"The alleged actions on the part of some members of the Alpha Tau Omega chapter run completely contrary to that commitment," Land wrote in an email. "They also would represent violations of the university's student code of conduct and that will not be tolerated."
Land says if the hearing board determines there is a violation, a wide range of disciplinary actions could be taken. Those disciplinary actions can not be discussed due to protection under privacy regulations.
