Santa Claus Making His Annual Appearance On Indiana Railroad Santa Train

Last updated on Friday, October 23, 2015

(UNDATED) - Santa Claus will be making his annual appearance to the area on the Indiana Railroad Santa Train once again this Christmas season.

Families are invited to join the special Yuletide tradition by visiting Santa and Mrs. Claus on the festively decorated Christmas train. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be accompanied by a full cast of costumed characters being brought to life by Indiana Rail Road employee volunteers and their families and friends.

The Santa Train will enter the area on Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Yoho Store in Solsberry from 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. It will then make its way to Seminary Street in Bloomfield where it will stay from 11 a.m. until noon. Linton will be its next stop. It will be located at S.E. C Street from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. before heading to Main Street in Dugger from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. The Santa Train will end its time in Greene County at the City Park in Jasonville where it will stop from 6 p.m until 7 p.m. It is important to remember that Santa will not depart from any community without seeing all families who were in line by the closing deadline, so arrival times are estimates.

This year, employees will be updating the trains' progress via Twitter. Photos will also be shared by the @IndianaRailRoad Twitter account using the hashtag #INRDSantaTrain. Follow this account to obtain more accurate times of when the train will be at your location.

Santa Train admission is free and open to children and grownups of all ages, and Santa's helpers will also donate coats, hats and gloves to help families in need of warmth this winter.

Guests will be invited aboard the festively-decorated train to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus while popular characters -- from princesses, to Big Bird, to superheroes -- entertain waiting families. It's all brought to life by INRD employee volunteers, their families and friends of the company.

Although the Santa Train will not be equipped to accept any clothing donations during their stop, anyone interested in donating to the cause may make a monetary donation that will go directly to the purchase of clothing that will be distributed from the Santa Train. Cash donations can also be sent by check to: INRD, Attn.: Shae LeDune, 8888 Keystone Crossing, Suite 1600, Indianapolis, Ind. 46240. Please make all checks out to the Indiana Rail Road and add "Santa Train" on the memo line.

The Santa Train concept originated in 1989 as a volunteer project of Indiana Rail Road employees. This year, more than 6,000 people are expected to visit the train during its three-day tour in southern Indiana and Illinois.

The Indiana Rail Road Company is a privately-held, 500-mile railroad based in Indianapolis. The company hauls the equivalent of more than 800,000 truckloads of consumer, industrial, and energy products each year.
