(BEDFORD) - A Mitchell man was injured after his vehicle struck a road sign and a utility pole, and then stopped after striking an AT&T communications box.

According to a Bedford Police report, 25-year-old Craig Powell was traveling west on 16th Street Saturday afternoon when his 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier left the roadway on the south side of the road. His car then struck a road sign, a utility pole, another road sign, six yard signs and then came to a stop after striking an AT&T communications box.

Powell complained of neck and shoulder pain and was treated at the scene by an IU Health Hospital ambulance crew.

Powell told police that a gray SUV attempted to pass him on the right side of the roadway and struck his car in the front passenger side. Powell told police that the impact caused him to lose control of his car and cross the centerline before leaving the roadway. Powell says the SUV then turned onto State Road 450 and sped away.

The owner of Revere's gas station told police they had video available of the accident. In the video, Powell's vehicle is seen running off the south side of the road and striking the road sign, pole and communication box. The video also shows that the car never showed brake lights and there was never an SUV.

The only vehicle shown in the video is a gray Jeep Wrangler that was traveling west and passed the accident then pulled into the parking lot with the driver exiting the vehicle to assist Powell.

After reviewing the video, police again spoke to Powell, who told police the same story of a gray SUV. When asked about not applying the brakes, Powell told police he locked up his brakes following the crash, but used his emergency brake as he traveled off the roadway. However, police say there were no skid marks on the roadway or the grassy area.

According to police, Powell remained adamant that an SUV collided with his car.
