(WHEATLAND) - After years of delays, it appears that restoration of an old steel-trestle bridge over White River between Knox and Daviess counties will be repaired.
The bridge opened in 1903, is located on Washington Road east of Wheatland and straddles the White River between the two counties.
Knox County Highway Superintendent Donnie Mize says CLR Construction submitted the low big on the project even though the bid is $745,000 over the engineer's original cost estimate. Knox and Daviess Counties share will be $101,000 apiece with INDOT picking up the difference.
Work will include raising the entrance to the bridge on the Knox County side.
