Last updated on Tuesday, October 27, 2015

(BLOOMINGTON) - City of Bloomington Fire Department Battalion Chief Roger Kerr was not injured when his fire truck was struck from behind, causing it to spin and roll onto its side at the intersection of Atwater and Indiana avenues Monday afternoon.

According to a Bloomington Police report, Kerr was traveling east on Atwater, in a Ford battalion truck around 4:15 p.m. Police say he was on an emergency call and did have the lights and sirens on.

Police say Kerr slowed at the intersection to make sure it was clear of traffic before entering. As he accelerated the truck was struck from the rear by a Buick which had the green light and was headed north on Indiana Avenue.

The impact caused the battalion truck to spin and then roll onto its passenger side, stopping on the south side of the road.

The male driver of the Buick was not injured.

The crash congested traffic at the near the Indiana University campus as officers worked the accident.
