No Charges To Be Filed Against Dugger Councilman

Last updated on Thursday, October 22, 2015

(SULLIVAN) - Sullivan County Prosecutor John Springer has declined to charge a Dugger councilman who was arrested earlier this month for domestic battery.

64-year-old Kermit King was arrested on October 3 for allegedly battering his wife, but Springer says after reviewing the evidence, he didn't file official charges because he lacked sufficient evidence to file any.

The Kings are currently undergoing divorce proceedings.

According to a Sullivan County Sheriff's Department report King's wife claimed he had battered her on his brother's property. King told police was "guiding" her off of the property after a dispute.

The dispute began after King took photos of the couple's property. The wife then came to King's brother's home wanting to know why King was taking the photos. She claims it was during that discussion that her estranged husband grabbed and pushed her. King claims he just guided her from the property.
