Michael Eaton Defends Bedford Half Marathon Title

Last updated on Monday, October 12, 2015

(BEDFORD ) - The Bedford Half Marathon had perfect weather Saturday with the race starting at a cool 45 degrees.

Chris Galloway, who co-directs the race with Todd Oliver of the Carmel Road Racing Group, was elated with Saturday's event.

This year, 742 people participated in either the 13.1-mile race, the 5K or the 1-mile walk. Galloway says that number is up from last year's 713. He says the increase was because of an estimated 200 more young people participated thanks to schoolteachers forming local running groups.

In the half marathon, Louisville's Michael Eaton defended his title, winning in a course record time of 1:09:39.65. Mitchell's Rebecca Kleihege was the overall women's winner, finishing in 1:35:43.13. The top Lawrence County finisher was Kyle Stansbury of Springville with a time of 1:14:59.80.

A third race is already in the works for October 2016.
